Homebody QAL & Donate: Week 5

Updated: Jun 30

We are getting so close to finishing our quilts now! How exciting is that? Welcome to Week 5.

I hope everyone enjoyed making your Cat's Cradle blocks. Aren't they a joy with their generous size? You're on a role making them and at the end of only 5 blocks, you've covered some ground!

If you thought those came together quickly, just wait until this week making your Flying Geese Blocks! They're even faster. We are so close, my quilty friends!

Again, this next block is as simple as sewing (2) flying geese side by side to create a unit. You'll need a total of (4) flying geese units per block. Then you simply finish off with (3) rows to complete.

Moving on to this week's winner! And it will be @sew.help.me. Congratulations! Please reach out to me so we can get your custom sign out to you!

Next week's prize is another fun one. My sweet friend Jennifer from Hollis Threads will be offering a Homebody Quilt Kit! You can make another Homebody Quilt with two options of color patterns. I'm also going to throw in the Merry and Bright Modern Christmas Quilts book as well. I had the amazing opportunity to participate in this quilt book. I have one pattern included called Christmas Star Quilt as seen on the cover. With this week's prizes, you'll have plenty of quilt projects to work on for a while!

I'd love to see more of the Homebody Quilts being made. So please don't be shy and share, share, share! Simply use #qalanddonate in Instagram or post to our Facebook Group page. Again, if you're super shy, you can privately send me an email with a photo update and you'll be included in the drawing!

Moving on to some amazing numbers shared by Quilts for Kids! They released their final numbers for quilt donations in 2021. Here's what they had to share...

In 2021 QFK's 90 chapters delivered 22,980 quilts nationwide to hospitals, shelters, and other organizations that help children in need.

In 2021 QFK Headquarters in Fairless Hills, PA, delivered 7803 quilts all over the country from Philadelphia to Georgia to Maine to Arizona!

Wow! That deserves a standing ovation! I was completely blown away by these numbers. Just think, for 2022, the quilt you're making at this very moment will be included. And remember, those numbers all represent children. It's important that we remind ourselves here in these QAL & Donate events just how special and important your work is. It's vital we focus on the children and the comfort they will receive from your quilt. I will never stop reminding you how valuable you are!

To close this week, I wanted to remind you that I had mentioned earlier in the QAL that we are not going to add borders to our quilts. So as you approach the end, mark that off your quilt making "to do" list! The purpose of removing the borders is to create a smaller quilt for the children. (If you have worked ahead and already added the borders, no worries. It will still be put to wonderful use!)

Also, don't forget your return form that is to be included with your quilt when you ship it.

That's a wrap for this week! Have a lovely week sewing.
