Some Mock Ups and A New Group

Updated: Jun 30

Let's talk fabric.

In my mind, fabric is crucial in creating the look and feel of a quilt.

Have you ever had in your mind a quilt you wanted to make...and in the end, it just didn't measure up to what you pictured in your mind? I sure have!

It's taken a long time to decide what kind of fabrics I enjoy using.

Add in the fact that a quilt is going to Quilts for Kids and now you have a twist to the decision making process.

Kids see and think and feel differently than we do.

The challenge for me is choosing fabrics that kids will love but that are beautiful and eye catching as well.

In recent years, I've learned much about fabric designers. And I've narrowed it down to certain types of fabrics I like to use in Quilts for Kids donations.

My top two go to fabric companies are Riley Blake and Art Gallery Fabrics.

Both have a plethora of choices perfect for little eyes yet pleasing to the adult quilt designer.

Should you ever find yourself at a loss in your fabric choice, I highly recommend starting with one or both of these.

In our most recent (and first) QAL & Donate back in September, we used my Valle Crucis Quilt pattern.

This pattern lends itself to much color and the opportunity for fun and vivid fabrics perfect for children.

The crosses in the middle allow for a colorful, large print that any little one will love.

Then the blocks around the crosses are designed to be 9 different fabrics.

Once you've completed the color palette, the end result is a burst of rainbow!

I have included below 3 mock ups to demonstrate how to combine this desire of lovely fabrics and kid-friendly fabrics.

I hope your eyes will enjoy the scenery and maybe even be inspired in your next project for Quilts for Kids.

You're always welcome to donate quilts at any time and most certainly welcome to share about it.

If you're an Instagram kind of quilter, please share using #cozycolorquilts, #vallecrucisquilt, or #qalanddonate if you decide to use the Valle Crucis quilt.

I, along with other participants, would love to see what you're creating!

Before I share these mock ups, I want to extend the invitation for you to be an active participant in this online group.

We now have a Facebook group!

Please feel free to head over and join.

We will be sharing about any quilts you're making for Quilts for Kids. This group will also serve as the host the QAL & Donate events!

Can't wait to see you there!

And here are the mock ups I promised.
